She recently made some rare comments about motherhood, saying: “It’s funny if you try to explain it to someone who has kids, you don’t need to because they get it,” Robbie said in conversation with Entertainment Tonight.
“And if they don’t, it’s probably just really boring to hear.”
She added: “It’s the best”.
The pair work together too, in 2014, they co-founded production company LuckyChap Entertainment with friends Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara.
LuckyChap Entertainment which went on to make the films I, Tonya, Promising Young Woman and Barbie and Wuthering Heights.
Speaking to E! News at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards, Robbie opened up about how Ackerley isn’t “fazed” by her career choice and the stardom that comes with it.
The Aussie actress also admits she feels “so lucky” to have a “normie” husband while navigating the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
“He likes being behind the camera, he’s not fazed by any of this stuff. He’s just the best, it’s so fun,” the actress gushed.
“I love the word ‘normie,’ yes, like all my friends, everyone’s like, ‘That’s cool what you do but it’s more fun just to hang out and talk about other stuff.’ And you’re like, ‘I know.'”
Ackerley is no stranger to the hustle however, working his way up in Hollywood from a floor runner, fetching coffee for celebs, to being an executive producer on some of this year’s biggest films.
Long before he met Robbie, he had a role in the Harry Potter series, starring as a Slytherin student in the first three instalments of the films.
While Robbie was on The Graham Norton Show in 2020, she exposed his Harry Potter role that had previously remained unknown.
“My husband is in the Harry Potter movies. I know I was like, ‘Had you told me sooner we would’ve been married very quickly,’ ” Robbie quipped.
“But he was an extra when he was a little kid – he was one of the Slytherin extras when Draco pushes some kids out of the way to see Buckbeak in the third book. He pushes my husband out of the way.”
In 2011, aged 21, Ackerley began his climb to being a director, working as a floor runner on British drama series, The Hour and the comedy film, Big Fat Gypsy Gangster.
His time spent looking after cast and crew, tending to any need on set that would aid the shoot’s progress developed his career in the industry and by 2012 he was the third assistant director.
Continuing his crawl to the top, he worked as the first assistant director on The Borderlands in 2013, but that would not be the highlight of his year.
Instead, whilst working on the set of Suite Française he met his future wife, Robbie.
She was acting alongside Michelle Williams and was enjoying her life as a single, successful actress.

Speaking to Vogue in 2016, Robbie revealed “the best-looking guy in London” caught her attention.
“I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit,” she said. “And then this crept up on me. We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, Oh, he would never love me back.
“Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him. And then it happened, and I was like, Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.”
