’13 Going on 30′ Reboot in the Works with Emily Bader and Logan Lerman – CelebrityKind || Positive Celebrity News | Movies TV Music Books

Thirty, flirty and thriving! Yes, it’s true…. a reboot of the classic 2004 rom-com, 13 Going on 30, or Suddenly 30 as we call it here in Australia, is happening at Netflix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the remake will have Emily Bader (People We Meet on Vacation) and Logan Lerman (Only Murders in the Building) playing loveable leads, Jenna Rink and Matty Flamhaff.

The original film starred Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, plus Judy Greer as Jenna’s bestie, Lucy Wyman. It’s not clear whether any of them will return to the screen for the new film, but we do know Jennifer is serving as executive producer on the project.

The announcement has been met with both enthusiasm (more of Jenna and Matty for a new generation, hooray!) as well as utter disappointment in the lack of original ideas coming out of Hollywood these days.

Media commentator and disability activist Hannah Diviney makes an important point about the need for new voices. In a post on Instagram, she writes, “Nostalgia is a really important form of storytelling. But it was never meant to sustain an entire industry. Remakes and reboots absolutely have their plae. But when they outnumber investment in original ideas because people are afraid to take risks? That’s a big problem.”

She continues, “If it feels like we’re running out of stories, that’s probably a sign we need to start hearing new voices. Because I guarantee there are literally thousands of stories we haven’t heard yet.”

This year alone, it’s already been announced that we’re getting a remake of Dirty Dancing and a prequel series to Legally Blonde titled Elle, plus there are sequels to The Princess Diaries, The Devil Wears Prada, Ocean’s 14 and Practical Magic too.
