Renato Paiva is no longer the coach of Botafogo.
The club announced the dismissal of the 55-year-old Portuguese coach early Monday morning (30).
He leaves the club after 23 games, with 12 wins, three draws, and eight losses. A 56.52% success rate.
Paiva was officially announced by Botafogo on February 27 (on the night of the Recopa Sudamericana vice-championship) after several negative responses and a long search for Artur Jorge’s substitute.
His debut was precisely against Palmeiras, in the 0-0 draw in the inaugural round of the Brasileirão, on March 30.
Glorioso started badly in the Libertadores, with two defeats in the first three rounds, but reacted to qualify for the round of 16.
After a bad start in the BR as well, Botafogo recovered before the World Cup. It is currently in eighth place.
Alvinegro also advanced in the Copa do Brasil by eliminating Capital, a team from Series D, after a rout at Nilton Santos and a defeat in Brasília.
He arrived at the World Cup with the mission of trying to qualify in the “Group of Death” and drew positive attention by defeating PSG.
He eventually advanced in second place after a defeat to Atlético de Madrid and left the competition after a performance below expectations against Palmeiras.
Botafogo will have LDU and Red Bull Bragantino as rivals in the round of 16 of Libertadores and Copa do BR, respectively.
Will decide both classifications as a visitor in the second game.
Botafogo informs that Renato Paiva is no longer the team’s main coach. The decision was communicated to the professional on Sunday night (29). The Club thanks Paiva and his assistants for the services provided to Glorioso in recent months – with a highlight for the historic victory against Paris Saint-Germain, in the Club World Cup, and the classification for the round of 16 of the Libertadores and Copa do Brasil.
John Textor and the Football Department’s board are in the market looking for a new coach for the challenge of continuing on the path of titles, fighting for the Libertadores and Brazilian bicampeonatos and the unprecedented Copa do Brasil title.
